Homage to Kotaro Takamura

The meaning of life.
For him, it is all about personally embodying calligraphy.
The moment he applies the final touch to his work, it becomes a thing of the past, an object to be obliterated.
His life as a calligrapher is endlessly repeating the process of destroying his work into which he has given his whole heart and life’s blood and then moving on to discovering new ways of expression.

Presently, he has rediscovered the indigenous beauty of Japan.
The grace of kana, or Japanese character, perfected in the ninth century, was born out of the Japanese sense of beauty. That is, the inherent sensibility to find elegance within the simplest objects or landscapes around them, and an appreciation of the sadness felt for the impermanence that exists in a constantly changing world.
He has successfully reconstructed these values expressed in ancient literature written with old scripts by using modern-day Japanese characters and words, and sublimated it into a contemporary art form reflecting his own unique style.

His works emanate pure energy and move us in ways that provide inspiration to all.
They appear as if to pay homage to the culture of ancient times and to be infused with his determination to carry on as a contemporary calligrapher. They represent his undeniably vibrant spirit.
